St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area
Located in Pinellas County, St. Petersburg and Clearwater are home to sun-drenched beaches,
peaceful bodies of water and expansive green space. St. Petersburg and Clearwater are two of the
three major cities that define the Tampa Bay area. Both
Fort De Soto and Sand Key parks have made the list of Top Ten
Beaches in the United States and offer many recreational
possibilities. Situated along Florida's West Coast,
Pinellas County has miles of serene coastline and a rich array
of marine and estuarine ecosystems composing the country's
waters. Anglers, boaters and paddlers enjoy the seemingly
unending blueways that both surround and transverse the county.
Wildlife and nature tours are available at Florida Botanical
Gardens at Pinewood Cultural Park, where native species and
exotic tropical plants encompass 150 acres of natural and formal
gardens. The county also maintains several preserves, two
of which abound with outdoor activities. Brooker Creek
Preserve is the county's largest natural area, covering nearly
8,500 acres and featuring several trails and paths for hikers
and equestrians. Visitors to Weedon Island Preserve enjoy
paddling and hiking trails, a fishing pier, 45-foot observation
tower, picnic areas and 6,600 feet of boardwalk with three
observation platforms.
